A play commissioned by the Fulton of British playwright Mark Healey, who worked in depth with John Fowles, the novel’s author. Director Kate Saxon is a
member of the UK’s Shared Experience Theatre Company.
The design challenge was to accommodate in one space all the possibilities presented in Fowles’ blend of period, style and location. In this adaptation, the
author becomes an active character, sometimes observing his creations, sometimes trying to understand their behavior. The Victorian male lead character is a
naturalist studying fossils, in much the same way as the Author studies him, and this became the design idea….
